Summary
As a Diesel Tractor Technician, you will provide fleet drivers with safe, reliable, and cost-efficient vehicles by performing quality preventative maintenance inspections and repairs, as well as performing diagnosis and repair as required to prevent breakdowns on the road, reduce vehicle down time, and improve total fleet reliability.
Essential Functions and Duties
Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests, identifying worn and damaged parts.
Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventative maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades; controlling corrosion; completing winterization procedures.
Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics; completes machine shop operations; making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units.
Diagnose and repair accident damage.
Repair, replace and install doors, latches, internal and external, and identification placards.
Complies with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.
Maintains vehicle records by annotating services and repairs.
Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, and performing preventative maintenance.
Contains costs by using warranty information in evaluating service and parts options.
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publications.
Enhances maintenance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
May be required to cross-train with other maintenance technicians to assist on trailer and/or refrigeration unit service, repair, and maintenance duties as needed.
Miscellaneous duties assigned by department supervisor as needed.
Required Qualifications
Strong problem-solving skills
Strong mechanical aptitude
Competency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, etc.)
Proficient in multi-tasking and project management
Must be detail oriented
Education
High school diploma or equivalent
Technical training certificate or degreed program preferred
Experience
One to three years of experience required
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, or Additional Eligibility Qualifications
CDL is helpful but not required
Computer Skills
Basic computer & software skills required
Schedule
Sunday-Thursday, 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM, or Tuesday-Saturday, 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM, with an average work week of 40-45 hours. Additional hours and support will be required on an as needed basis

Work is mostly performed in an environment that is subject to temperature fluctuations as the outdoor temperature fluctuates. This job requires a moderate degree of physical fitness and mobility. Bending, squatting, stooping, climbing, crawling, and lifting up to 100 lbs. is required.
