Summary
As a Shop Technician, you will take direction from the shop foreman to provide fleet drivers with safe, reliable, and cost-effective equipment by providing preventative maintenance on both truck and trailer units as well as performing diagnosis and repair as required by company and DOT standards. This position will also prepare new equipment for fleet requirements as needed.
Essential Functions and Duties
Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests, identifying worn and damaged parts.
Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventative maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades; controlling corrosion; completing winterization procedures.
Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems.
Diagnose and repair medium to heavy-duty trailers, including preventative maintenance, inspections, repair to air and hydraulic brakes, warranty procedures, ABS systems, suspension, electrical and trailer body repairs with safety as the top priority.
Install refrigeration units, fuel tanks, and circulation equipment on new trailers.
Diagnose and repair accident damage.
Repair, replace, and install doors, latches, and identification placards.
Comply with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.
Maintains vehicle records by annotating services and repairs.
Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, and performing preventative maintenance.
Contains costs by using warranty information in evaluating service and parts options.
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and by reading technical and regulation publications.
Enhances maintenance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
Document work order details within the company's internal order and billing program.
Ensure proper documentation is complete, including permits, repair orders, filing, etc.
Abides by all company policies and safety rules and assists in maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor or foreman.
Required Qualifications

Ability to hook, drive, and back up semi tractor-trailer
Excellent time management and organization skills
Competency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, etc.)
Proficient in multi-tasking and project management
Must be detail oriented
Education
High school diploma or equivalent
Technical training certificate or degreed program preferred
Experience
One year of experience preferred
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, or Additional Eligibility Qualifications
CDL is preferred but not required
Computer Skills
Basic computer & software skills required
Schedule
Sunday-Thursday, 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM, or Tuesday-Saturday, 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM, with an average work week of 40-45 hours. Additional hours and support will be required on an as needed basis

Work is mostly performed in an environment that is subject to temperature fluctuations as the outdoor temperature fluctuates. This job requires a moderate degree of physical fitness and mobility. Bending, squatting, stooping, climbing, crawling, and lifting up to 100 lbs. is required.
